Ferrari 599 GTO – Official Photos, Details & Specs

After few leaked photos, Ferrari finally unveiled its latest 599 GTO based on the 599XX, the advanced experimental track car.First of all let us tell you that the new car is going to be produced in a limited edition of just 599 units for 599 clients who seek the maximum expression of high-performance driving. The GTO designation a.k.a. Gran Turismo Omologata instantly calls to mind two Ferraris that have entered the collective imagination as symbols of performance: the 1962 250 GTO and the 1984 GTO. Ok, so let’s see what is under the hood of this baby! According to the manufacturer, the car uses the same 5999 cc 65-degree V12 engine (compatible with Euro 5 and LEV 2 standards) found on the 599 GTB but capable to deliver 670 hp @ 8250 rpm and a maximum torque of 620 Nm at 6500 rpm.

The car also features a second generation magnetorheological suspension control system (SCM2), new springs and a stiffer rear anti-roll bar as well as the latest-generation F1-Trac traction control. The new 599 GTO is capable to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.35 seconds and has a top speed of over 335 km/h. The 599 GTO benefits directly from the technological transfer from racing and set a record lap time at Fiorano in 1’24″.

Regarding the new aerodynamic kit, Ferrari says the new front spoiler incorporates a separate lower wing that increases downforce at the front of the car and increases the flow of cooling air to the oil radiator while on the flans the new side sills improve the efficiency of the central section of the underbody.

The kit is completed by the 20-inch rims wrapped in high performance tires: front tires are now 285/30 on a 9.5-inch channel with 315/35 on an 11.5-inch channel at the rear. Behind the rims we find a new and lighter CCM2 braking system. According to the manufacturer the new car boasts an excellent 100 to 0 km/h braking distance of just 32.5 metres.

A look inside Becker Automotive

When it comes to a global service company that sets the bar in the industry for providing luxury services, Privé International is a leader in the industry. Privé members require the best in service and quality which is why Becker Automotive is the number one recommended choice for Privé’s members when it comes to automobile customization. There are few automobile customizers that set a standard in the industry like Becker Automotive. The company is in a class of their own and one of the true pioneers in the industry.

The story of how Becker Automotive came to be is an inspiring story of innovation and passion, and one which started back in the late 1970′s. Howard Becker made his footprint in the world of automobile customizations during the L.A. auto sound scene some 40 years ago. In those days Becker states “I wasn’t selling electronics. I was selling an experience.” His toughest sell, though, was his own father, Bernard, who originally owned the shop. The way Bernard Becker saw it, young Howard was bound to succeed as a lawyer. After all, his son had everything else, both on the athletic field and in the classroom. In 1966, Becker won a track scholarship to the University of Southern California, where he competed in both 400- and 800-meter events, ultimately earning world ranking in the quarter mile in 1969. In 1971 Becker got his M.B.A. and went to work for a management consulting firm, doing financial planning, marketing, and capital restructuring. He found himself drawn to the nitty-gritty of running his own company. Becker was becoming an entrepreneur, but he knew nothing about the world of the entrepreneurs, and had no tools to show him how to be one, “At that time, American universities didn’t take entrepreneurship seriously,” he explains. “Now, it’s big, but back then it was mom-and-pop stuff. Business schools were geared to prepare their graduates for careers in marketing of finance with Fortune 500 companies or on Wall Street.” Becker decided to do something about that. First he immersed himself in the literature of entrepreneurship. Then, at the age of 23, he started teaching it. It began as a noncredit course at Pierce Junior College in Woodland Hills, Calif. Shortly thereafter Becker’s course became part of the accredited curriculum at California Lutheran University, where he continued to teach for the next 20 years. After having been successful at teaching entrepreneurship he though now perhaps it was time to put it into practice. And what a better place to do it that in his father’s car radio shop.

Initially it was a frustrating process especially working alongside his father. His dad would give me jobs like stacking the shelves, just to keep him out of his way. But as Becker soon proved, he had a knack for selling. “I didn’t just want to repair car stereos, I wanted to improve [their sound]. Dad had always prided himself on doing a job as economically as possible. The typical car of that time had an AM/FM radio in the dash hooked up to one monaural speaker. When customers wanted to convert to an 8-track tape and stereo system, Dad would say ‘Keep the speaker in front; I’ll just add another in the back. It’ll be cheaper and save you money.’ But the way I saw it, it wasn’t gizmos people wanted-not more radios or speakers or more amps, but more music-a deeper, richer sensation.” Soon, woofers were booming throughout the surrounding neighborhood and so was word about the Becker’s radio shop. “The shop was situated in Hawthorne, a predominantly black neighborhood north of LAX, so our clientèle wasn’t affluent, but after a motor and four wheels, the people who came into the shop had to have music.” The first breakthrough came as the result of attitude as much as an advancement in technology. “We looked at the car as if it were a home. What this means is, we took combinations of speakers-bass, midrange, and tweeters-and built them into the car much as you would build an in-home stereo system. It was the first time anybody had done that,” says Becker. “We were always learning and looking for ways to improve sound. A car isn’t like any other environment; it presents special challenges. The smaller the car, the more difficult it is to work with; the larger the car, the more room you have to mount equipment. Window glass can be particularly problematic. It reflects sound, while carpets absorb it. Audio direction is another consideration. Speakers are usually mounted in positions ‘off axis’ to the passenger’s; ears, and of course the driver never sits in the middle of the car.”

An even larger breakthrough came in the 80′s, when Becker committed what some claimed at the time was automotive heresy. Becker purchased a new Mercedes 450SL, ripped out its factory-installed sound system, and replaced it with his own design incorporating home stereo components and speakers. Then he drove it down Wilshire Boulevard to every Mercedes Benz, Rolls-Royce, Porsche, and Ferrari agency in Beverly Hills. “Some of the people at the Mercedes-Benz [dealerships] said, ‘How dare you put anything but factory equipment in that car’ That was maybe 25 percent of them. The rest of them were amazed when they heard the difference. “Then I outfitted some of the sales manager’s cars with similar equipment. It was a big investment, but the celebrities weren’t coming to Hawthorne, so we had to come to them. It gave the salesman something extra to sell. The Ferrari or Porsche of Rolls-Royce salesmen would ask a customer, ‘Say, would you be interested in upgrading your sound system?’ Considering that we were in the music capital of the world, there were lots of reasons for them to say yes.” The first celebrity to nod an affirmative was Rod Stewart. “He had a Porsche Turbo, and we installed about eight or 10 speakers in his car.”

In 1984, Becker moved the company, by then known as Becker Automotive Design (B.A.D.), to its present site, a half-block south of Beverly Hills, and began routinely installing upgraded sound systems for every Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Rolls-Royce, and Ferrari dealership from San Fernando Valley to Long Beach. Audi A8 L W12 Quattro 2011 Flagship Sedan Revealed

Prior to the Beijing Auto Show and as we said in this post, Audi revealed this week the 2011 A8 L W12 quattro flagship sedan. With an overall length of 5,267 millimeters (17.28 ft), the new Audi A8 L is 130 mm (0.43 ft) longer than the regular version. The wheelbase has grown by the same amount, to 3,122 mm (10.24 ft) while the width remained unchanged at 1,949 mm (6.39 ft). The height has increased with 2 mm (0.08 in) to 1,462 mm (4.8 ft). As the name says it, the new A8 K comes with a W12 6.3 FSI engine capable to deliver 368 kW (500 hp) and an impressive 625 Nm (460.98 lb-ft) at engine speeds at 3,250 rpm. With these numbers the car can accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.9 seconds and effortlessly reaches its governed top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph).

Although it a big engine, in the EU cycle test it has a fuel consumption of just 12.0 liters per 100 kilometers (19.6 US mpg). The engine is mated to a eight-speed tiptronic gearbox and gearshifts are performed electronically (“shift by wire”) from an elegant yacht-style selector lever or at steering wheel paddles. For the moment Audi offers just this W12 6.3 FSI engine but by the end of the year it will be available with all the engines currently offered for the A8.

As you may know already, the new car is built for business men and the full extra length of this sedan benefits rear-seat passengers. The doors are longer and the space available inside the can only be described as opulent. The luxury four-zone automatic air conditioning is controlled by no fewer than 25 adjusting motors. Regarding the design of the interior, the Valonea leather is tanned exclusively with plant extracts and is especially soft and able to “breathe” actively. An interesting option is the panoramic glass roof that has two glass panels that allow plenty of light to reach the car’s interior.

For extra comfort, the car comes as standard with an adaptive air suspension with controlled damping and the driver can choose between four different operating settings of the engine. The design of the car is completed by the 19-inch alloy wheels with a 15-spoke design reserved only for this model and wrapped in 255/45 tires. As an option, Audi offers the 20-inch but also the 21-inch wheels. The A8 L W12 quattro, the new top model, naturally has a high-performance brake system, with ventilated disks at all four wheels. The front disks are 400 mm (15.75 in) in diameter, with 356 mm (14.02 in) disks at the rear.

Gooding & Co. Sets Two World Records for Classic Cars

Talk about getting off to a good start! The results of Gooding & Company’s debut in Northern Florida’s Amelia Island were nothing short of spectacular! With a total of 58 out of 71 lots sold, the auction held at the Amelia Island Plantation on March 12 reported more than $16.1 million total sales. Two world records occurred in regard to sales price for two of the three million-dollar lots.

The auction’s top seller, a 1931 Voisin C20 V12 Mylord Demi-Berline, established a new world record for the car with a sale of $2.75 million. A 1961 Porsche RS61, which also set a new world record for that vehicle, sold at $1.75 million. A 1932 Bugatti Type 50 Drop Head Coupe rounded out the top three selling at $1.1 million.

Sales figures of the first Amelia Island auction, when compared to the 2010 Scottsdale and 2009 Pebble Beach auctions, are excellent. Those two auctions combined sold 243 collector cars with total sales of $85 million. Additionally, the Amelia Island auction was a one-evening affair and not a two-day event like the other two auctions.
